We first met years ago at the library when she came to promote Conflict Resolution Month in Colorado: conflictresolutionmonth.org . This organization has a motto of sorts: “Listen\, Talk\, Work it Out.” Their yearly celebration every October aims at encouraging individuals and groups to resolve their conflicts instead of inflaming them. Each year\, they also have a book suggestion\, and in 2025 it’s Calling In\, by Loretta J. Ross. The subtitle is\, How to start making change with those you’d rather cancel. By way of honoring that organization\, this month’s topic is “Mediation.” This could include anything from the informal act of “intervention in a dispute in order to resolve it” (a dictionary definition)\, to formal and professional arbitration as an important part of the legal system. We will be joined by Sam Benson\, Self-represented Litigant Coordinator from the Colorado Courts. SUMMARY:Kate Kingston - Author Signing Event
DESCRIPTION:Local poet Kate Kingston has previously partnered with the Trinidad Library in 2016 when she exhibited selections of her poetry on our Art Wall. She has been active in the local poetry and literary scene for years\, most notably with the poetry festivals of 2018 and 2019. She recently published her fifth book of poetry\, The Future Wears Camouflage\, and will be at the library’s main room on Saturday afternoon\, November 8th\, from 1:00 to 3:00PM to sell and sign copies of her book\, and to present readings of her poetry. \nThe Future Wears Camouflage weaves a meandering journey starting in Mexico during Dia de los Muertos and moving through the varied landscapes of Wisconsin\, Spain\, Morocco\, France\, and eventually to the Colorado wilderness. Kingston embraces these places transforming them into inner landscapes that infuse a spiritual effervescence\, one that thrives on life itself in all its richness and shifting beauty. \nKate grew up in Wisconsin and has degrees from the University of Wisconsin and Vermont College of Norwich University. Her poetry has received multiple national awards\, and has earned her fellowships in the United States and Europe. She has taught English and Spanish at Utah State University and at Trinidad State College.

DESCRIPTION:Common Good Café is a monthly get-together where we discuss topics related to those things we all possess in common\, things like the weather\, water\, sunlight. He gives us this thought: “I would like to start by exploring the statement ‘ I don’t have time’\, when in fact\, the amount of time available to each of us has never changed.  The change is people’s priorities.” \n  \nOur concept of time involves the entire gamut of our existence. We can see it in the realm of apparent objectivity\, as in physic’s exact seconds\, minutes and hours\, all the way to a vague\, subjective and troubling property involving our self-worth\, existential angst\, fear of over-working\, being productive or being lazy. It’s a concept that seems on the one hand to be obvious\, but as we try to define it accurately\, the question of “what is time\, and what does it mean” is impossible to get our brains around. Does time exist outside our mental concept of it? Is time the ever-present companion of memory\, and if memory ceases does time follow? Does time exist at all or are we simply moving from one distinct reality to the next? Is everyone’s experience of time the same? Is Time just a magazine? \n  \nWe will meet on 2nd Monday of every Month\, at 5:00PM via Zoom.  Please contact Tom Potter for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Common Good Café is a monthly get-together where we discuss topics related to those things we all possess in common\, things like the weather\, water\, sunlight. We normally meet on the second Monday of the month\, and this session is on Monday\, November 10th\, from 5:00 to 6:00PM. We will meet this time using Zoom Meeting\, and you must register to join. He gives us this thought: “I would like to start by exploring the statement ‘ I don’t have time’\, when in fact\, the amount of time available to each of us has never changed.  The change is people’s priorities.” \n  \nOur concept of time involves the entire gamut of our existence. We can see it in the realm of apparent objectivity\, as in physic’s exact seconds\, minutes and hours\, all the way to a vague\, subjective and troubling property involving our self-worth\, existential angst\, fear of over-working\, being productive or being lazy. It’s a concept that seems on the one hand to be obvious\, but as we try to define it accurately\, the question of “what is time\, and what does it mean” is impossible to get our brains around. Does time exist outside our mental concept of it? Is time the ever-present companion of memory\, and if memory ceases does time follow? Does time exist at all or are we simply moving from one distinct reality to the next? Is everyone’s experience of time the same?
